I didn’t begin as a successful student.
In fact, I failed all of my final school exams. That experience led me to question why capable students struggle—and what education might be getting wrong. At 20, I returned to learning and achieved dynamic results. Since then, I’ve spent over 45 years studying, observing, and working in education.
I am self-taught and do not hold a formal degree. My work is grounded in real experience with real human beings, independent research, and a lifelong commitment to understanding how people learn. The dean of an American university regards “Intelligence: The Great Lie” to be one of the most important books published this century, while professors and educationalists around the world regard my books to be among the best written about School, Society and Learning.
